Exercise - Take or give energy?

Very often I hear people say "I'm just too tired to exercise" or I will start a training session with a client and I will ask them how they feel. "I am really tired". My response is always the same. "I will make you a promise- notice how you are feeling now. OK you got it? Now lets get started!'

I do take that into consideration and will start a little slower. We will build on that, I will converse throughout the session and at the end of the workout, I once again ask them how their energy level is. Inevitably, they always feel better than when they started.

I believe energy is a lot like Love, the more you give the more you get. Fitness always increases energy. A stronger muscle does not fatigue as easily, recovers much faster and relaxes better. When the muscles get stronger, so do the ligaments, tendons, joints, bones, vascular and immune system. Your entire body benefits from fitness.

Combine fitness with adequate hydration, good nutrition, proper rest, meditation and you will be the person you always knew you could be.

CANI

Constant and Never Ending Improvement is not only the best strategy for developing skills(school, sports, work, weight loss) in any activity, it is the only way that works. The Japanese call it KIAZEN and use this philosophy in all areas of life. The problem with most people is they are in to big a hurry to get there. A good example is weight loss or beginning a exercise program. They want to make up for lost time. When someone finally decides to lose that 50lbs. they will cut their calorie intake a third or even half, try to run a mile, then go lift weights. Even though I may be exaggerating a bit, I think you know what I mean. This approach NEVER works, except to create frustation and a mind set that it is just to hard or that it can't even be done. This strategie is doomed from day one. The fastest way to progress is slowly. Do not put your self in dietary prison or in a boot camp if you have not exercised in years. What does work and gives the subject a real sense of success is to take the tactic of under do, under do, under do! Create good habits then progress (slowly). Doing it this way will put you on the right track from the start. You will feel smart about this strategy, and see slow but continual improvement. Take some measurements. You will need to journal your bodyweight and workouts. This way of thinking will also work in any other area of your life. Set some goals, short and long term, yet do it so that you can win the game of CANI. I knew of a man who was 100lbs. overweight and had very little physical strength when he started his running program. He began by running two mail boxes away (about 50yds.) and over a period of two years he lost the 100lbs. and was running Marathons. I myself have trained people (yes more than one) who have never lifted weights, started them very slowly, and watched as they worked there way to a World Championship. What could you do with a strategy like this?

Human Potential

Is it possible for us to reach in and use all of our God given potential? In my opinion, we first need to recognize the six areas of human potential. They are Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social , Emotional, and financial. Suppose we could use them all, what would be our level of accomplishment? This is a question that, more than likely, cannot be answered in our lifetime. I remember back in the 70s and 80s, scientist claimed that we only use about 10% of our mental capacity. Well, that was then. Now, the experts say that we only use a meager 1% of our very powerful minds. 1%!!! That information disappoints and excites me at the same time. For me to think that I only use 1% of my effort is very disturbing. As a life long athlete, I always prided myself with the thought that I give it my ALL! Some may say that athletics is simply physical and I would agree, except that the Mind controls every single move you make. The excitement comes from the fact that some way, some how we can reach within ourselves, find and use all or the wonderful treasures in us and become all we were meant to be. Lets step out of our little1% zone, commit to learn new tasks, read, find out what we really enjoy doing, expect to improve and even begin to teach others to expand. This is all possible because you now have a better understanding as to the possibilites that lie within your grasp. I have mainly focused on the mental aspect of your journey and, in fact, have just barely touched on it but, hopfully, have given you some food for thought. Begin now to use your abilites and think creatively of ways to strenghten your desire to reveal all the hidden resources within you. What is your true potential? Wouldn't you like to know?

Team Fitness Power Blogs for the day

I plan to post a Team Fitness power blog 4-5 times a week usually Mon. - Fri. The purpose of which is to enlighten, inspire, educate, motivate and/or help you think and create. These power blogs are a wonderful tool for your success in fitness and beyond. Well, what does that mean? It means that I am going to give you some good fitness information , motivate and inspire you to take action, but I am also going to make you use your creative mind and THINK. Now, when I say "use your creative mind and think", the purpose is for you to be able to fill in some of the blanks, I am leaving in the blogs to stimulate your creative mind. You see, I do believe in the philosophy that we need to stimulate our minds to generate our physical being to the highest level. Strong mind, strong body.
Through out my years as a trainer and an athlete in extreme sports, I know the mind/body connection is powerful and they work together as a unit to bring out the best in you. Not only that, but in my opinion by consistently challenging mind and body it is possible to slow down the aging process and create our own fountain of youth within the cells of our body. Does that mean this is only for older athletes? No. Even if you are a teenager you will benefit from my experience as a trainer. One of my favorite quotes to my younger clients is "I sure wish I had me to coach me when I was starting and progressing in my athletic career". But you do so PAY ATTENTION!! I have been down the road I know the way. I can make the journey safe, fun, exciting, and effective.
